Palazzo Negri Dosi
Book
Two suites on the second floor – the family’s piano nobile – restored within these four-hundred-year-old Palazzo walls and full of character – each shaped by history, rich in space and detail, filled with thoughtfully chosen furniture and objects. You reach them up a majestic staircase and along a corridor set with Carrara marble statues, and every window looks out over the Palazzo garden and the landscape beyond the walls.
For Alessandro Gherardini, the Florentine whose biblical episodes and allegorical figures fill the great salone. A room of warm light and very high ceilings – its own bath, and the garden pouring light through every pane.
A three-room suite: bedroom, dressing room and bathroom.
For Giovanni Battista Natali, master of the painted quadrature that open the palazzo’s walls into invented distance. The suite keeps that spirit – a private bath, and from the second floor a long, quiet view across the garden.
Between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, some of the finest artists of the age worked within these walls. The Florentine painter Alessandro Gherardini decorated the great salone with biblical episodes and allegorical figures of rare elegance, while Giovanni Battista Natali painted the celebrated perspectival quadrature that still adorn the main hall and the monumental staircase – optical illusions that seem to push the rooms beyond their true bounds.
The names of our rooms are a quiet tribute to these artists, whose work has been part of our family home for centuries and remains part of its story today.
